Kara Haas ran 4:47 at the Millenium Mile in Londonderry (NH) on Dec 27, good for 2nd woman. Frank Row also ran 4:47, good for 5th master.

Allen Beebe was 12th overall at the Beaver brook Winter 5K Snowshoe Race & Snow Run in Hollis (NH) on Dec 13. Allen's time of 25:14 was a 9:01 pace and included (in his incisive words) "huffing and puffing while running through the woods with my snowshoes." Go Allen Go.

Karen DeRoma was 1st in her age group in 1:39:24 on Dec 6 at the Rock 'n' Roll (Las Vegas) Half-Marathon.

Jason Kramer ran a 1:26:39 PR at the Fiesta Bowl Half-Marathon in Scottsdale (AZ) on Dec 6.


November, 2009

At the Andover Country Club 3.5 XC Race on Nov 29, Frank Row ran 20:43 (5:55), Don Chapelle 21:42, Melissa Donais 21:48, Caroline Bjune 22:27, and Beth Hettrick 31:47.

On Nov 27 in South Hamilton at Gabes Run, Jim Pawlicki ran 17:50 (5:46), and Mike Masse ran 19:15.

Thanksgiving Day Races, Nov 26

Frank Row was 4th overall in 17:45 at the 1st Ever North Reading 5k Turkey Trot. Frank was 1st master and lost (by not much) to three young men who less than half his age.

Brian Reeves ran 19:57 at the Ayer Fire Dept. Thanksgiving Day Road Race.

Kara Haas was 1st woman in 17:53 at the Thanks4Giving 5k in Lowell. Henry Wilder ran 20:12, and Sarah Hardy 22:13.

Dan Vassallo won the Wild Turkey 5 Miler in Salem (MA) in 25:41. Tim Harris ran 32:26.

Holly Madden won the 11th Annual Hingham HS Boosters XC/T&F 5K Turkey Trot in 19:11, and she was 1st master too, of course.

At the 13th Gobble Gobble Gobble 4 Mile Run in Somerville, Sim Piergentili was 2nd woman (and 1st master) in 23:53. David Hirst ran 24:25, Larissa Park 24:49, and Steph Hirst 27:40 (53 second PR and 1:10 best on this course).

At the 2009 Turkey Trot 5K Cross Country in Newburyport, Dan Hill ran 21:47, Deb Sakr 23:43, and Scott Masse 23:57.

Over in New Paltz (NY), Dave Smith ran the Turkey Trot 5K in 27:40.

At the Feaster Five 5 miler in Andover, Don Chapelle was 1st senior in 30:09, while Nina Caron was 2nd woman overall in 30:13 (losing by 2 seconds to Joan Samuelson). John Goodwin was 2nd senior in 30:11. Stan Peijffers was 4th senior in 31:29. Caroline Bjune was 5th woman in 31:31. At the Philadelphia Half-Marathon on Nov 22, Linda Jennings ran a 52 second PR of 1:32:42. She won her age group and was 2nd senior oveall. Dan Vassallo was 4th overall in 1:06:58, also a PR.
In the Marathon, Dawn Mickee ran 3:41:51, Cynthia Springford 3:47:46 (5 minute PR), Meredith Fisher 4:17:08, and Jim Nast 4:48:08.

In the Essex Turkey Trot on Nov 22, Jim Pawlicki was 2nd overall in 27:27.

At the 29th Annual Slattery's Turkey Trot 5 Miler in Fitchburg on Nov 22, Brian Reeves was 5th master in 30 flat and Tina Dowling won the women's masters title in 30:45. Tim Harris ran 31:24.

At the 20th Annual Burbank YMCA 5K Classic in Wakefield on Nov 21, Frank Row was 5th overall in 17:51 and Simonetta Piergentili was 1st woman in 18:22. Cristina Winsor was 2nd master in 20:15, with Becky Connolly 3rd in 21:29.

On Nov 8 at the 27th Athens Classic Marathon, Christina Sheehan was 9th woman (and 1st American) in 2:59:49.

Tammie Robie won the Maine Coast Half-Marathon in York in Nov 8 in 1:21:34 (6:14). Larissa Park was 2nd in 1:31:14. Gina Newton was 6th in 1:35:13. Steph Hirst ran 1:41:05. Amy Dalton ran 2:01:26.
In the 5K, Jay Newton was 4th in 19 flat and Henry Wilder 6th in 19:49.

Chris Mahoney was 3rd in 1:14:43 at the Seacoast Half-Marathon in Portsmouth on Nov 8.

At the 9th Larry Robinson 10 Miler in Andover on Nov 8, Brian Reeves won the masters title and was 8th overall in 61:34 (6:10). Holly Madden was 1st woman in 18:56 (6:08) and 6th overall at the 5th Annual 5K Run By the Bay in Duxbury on Nov 8.

Kara Haas was 1st woman in 19:25 at the Team Micky 5K in Lowell on Nov 8.

Dan Vassallo won the 28th Annual Great Osprey 10K Ocean Run in 31:59. This is the 2nd year in a row Dan has won this one.

Tina Dowling was 1st woman in 18:37 at the Run for All Ages 5K in Wakefield on Nov 7. Frank Row ran 17:40 (8 second PR), Don Chapelle 18:07, Sharon Yu 25:02, and Lauren Bonaccorso 25:29.

At the New York City Marathon on Nov 1, Nate Krah ran 2:43:18.

In Lexington on Nov 1 at the Genesis Battlegreen 12K, Frank Row was 5th overall in 40:55 (5:30 pace). Brian Reeves was 7th in 41:27 (5:34). In the 5K, Tina Dowling was 1st woman in 19:02 (6:08).

Appropriately enough, at the TIP Family 5K in Lawrence on Nov 1, New Mom Caroline Bjune was 1st woman in 25:59, a 6:30 pace for this 4 miler. David Dargie ran 26:29, George Woodward 27:10, Henry Wilder 27:22, Linda Jowett 27:28, Kelly Cenca 31:08, Sharon Yu 32:02, Lauren Bonaccorso 32:53, Amy Dalton 33:30, Kara Sotirakopoulos 36:08, Elisa Colella 37:01, Donna Phaneuf 37:45, and Cathy Kobler 38:07.

Down in Hopkinton at the Baypath's 1st Annual Paws & Claws 5K on Nov 1, Dan Frank ran another PR, 20:53, and won the senior's age group.


October, 2009

At The Devil's Chase 6.66 Miler on Oct 31, Tim Harris was 11th overall and 1st master in 41:33 (6:15).

Tammie Robie won the 33rd Annual Santa Fund 10K in Nashua on Oct 31 in 37:28 (6:03). Tammie was 1st human. Yes, she won the whole thing. In the 5K, Jay Newton was 5th overall in 19:49. Henry Wilder ran 20:25, and Gina Newton 21:09. Jay and Gina were 1st in their age group, and Henry was 2nd.

Lory Cavanagh was 6th woman in 2:57:27 at the Marine Corps Marathon in D.C. on Oct 25. Tremendous performance.
Kathleen Walsh ran 3:54:06, Mike Foster 4:08:05, and Francine Johnson broke 6 in 5:59:37.

At the 8th Annual Miles for Myles 5K in Lunenburg on Oct 25, Brian Reeves was 3rd master in 18 flat.

Linda Ford won the master's title in 21:34 (6:57) at the Witch City 5K in Salem on Oct 25.

At the Essex Art Center Halloween 5k in Lawrence on Oct 25, Frank Row was 2nd overall in 15:09 (!!).

In Stratham (NH) on Oct 24 at the 11th Annual Great Bay 5K, Kara Haas was 1st woman in 17:28 (5:38). Dan Hill ran 20:24, Scott Masse 21:51, and Jim Vitale 23:37.

On Oct 24, Melissa Donais lost the Jennifer's Run 5K in Lowell by 2 seconds. She ran 18:32. Two guys beat her. She was 1st woman. Almost first humnan.

Tina Dowling won the Mohawk-Hudson River Marathon in Albany on Oct 11. First woman (and 1st master) in 2:56:33.

Kelly LeCours ran 3:11:22 at the Chicago Marathon on Oct 11. Cristina Winsor ran 3:19:58. Jay Newton ran 3:20:11 (7 minute PR) and Gina Newton ran 3:25:37 (12 minute PR). George Woodward ran a 3:30:34, which was a 7 minute PR. Lana Popova ran 3:54:50, which was a 27 minute PR. Jennifer Hout ran 4:08:43. Doreen Rizzo ran 5:13:27.

At the Great Island 5K in Newcastle (NH) on Oct 11, David Dargie ran 19:35, Kelly Cenca 23:28, Frank Cenca 23:55, Roberta Cook 24:05, Amy Dalton 24:43, Kara Sotirakopoulos 25:57, Elisa Colella, 27:58, Donna Phaneuf 28:22, and Robyn Pringle 29:16.

On Oct 11 at the BAA Half-Marathon, Brian Reeves ran 1:19:43 (6:05). Linda Jennings ran 1:33:36 (winning her age group and one second off her PR). Ann Domigan ran 1:43:08.

At the Bobby Bell 5 Miler in Haverhill on Oct 11, Dan Hill ran 33:21, Debbie Sakr 35:31, Scott Masse 36:28, Jim Vitale 40:37, and Sharon Yu 41:11.

At the Hartford Marathon on Oct 10, Joelle Michigan ran 4:05:58. In the Half-Marathon, Curt Wheeler was 4th in 1:08:42 (5:15) and Nick Wheeler was 8th in 1:10:45 (5:24).

Kara Haas was 1st woman in 29:34 (5:55) at the Grace Race 5 Miler in Chelmsford on Oct 10.

Jim Pawlicki ran 27:44 (5:34) at the 14th Annual James Early Invitational, an 8K cross-country race in Westfield, on Oct 10.

At the Smutty Nose Half-Marathon at Hampton Beach on Oct 4, Dan Vassallo took almost 7 minutes off last year's course record with a startling 1:08:42. Nate Krah was a close second in 1:09:02, and Jon Healey also beat the old record with a strong 1:13:28.
Julie Hanover was 7th woman and won her age group in 1:33:18.
Kara Sotirakopoulos ran a great 1:51:42 PR.
Cathy Drouin ran an absolutely wonderful race, finishing in 3:11:29. Congratulations Cathy!!!

Debbie Sakr was 5th woman and won her age group in 36:02 at the Apple Harvest 5 Miler in W. Newbury on Oct 4.

Kara Haas was 4th overall and 1st woman in 19:23 at the Mike Donohoe 5K in Georgetown on Oct 4. Kelly LeCours was 1st master and 7th overall in 20:06. Kara and three others ran 400 yards extra before crossing the finish. Oh well.
Lauren Bonaccorso was top senior woman in 25:25.

Linda Jowett ran a fine 3:22:51 at the Maine Marathon in Portland on Oct 4. Beth Lindquist ran 1:38:19 in the half.

On Oct 3 at the Somerville Homeless Coalition 5k, Larissa Park was 2nd woman in 18:31 (5:58).

In West Acton on Oct 3 at the Oktoberfest 5k, Brian Reeves was 3rd overall in 18:02 (5:49).


September, 2009

At the Wilmington Half Marathon on Sep 27, Steve LeCours was 3rd overall in 1:26:55. Kelly LeCours was 1st master and 11th overall in 1:34:39. Cristina Winsor was 2nd master and 13th overall in 1:37:57, Linda Ford was 3rd master and 16th overall in 1:40:24, Ann Domigan was 4th master and 18th overall in 1:44:11, and Roberta Cook was 8th master and 32nd overall in 1:52:15.

Sarah Prescott ran a relaxed 3:27:32 on Sep 27 at the 32nd Annual Clarence DeMar Marathon. Sarah was 3rd master woman. Chris Chetsas (even more relaxed) ran 3:31:41. John Murphy ran an extremely inspired and inspiring 3:33:09.

Carmela Taveras was 2nd master in 2:37:47 at the Nahant 30K on Sep 27.

Kara Haas was 1st woman and 5th overall in 17:43 on Sep 27 at the Kerouac 5K in Lowell. Beth Hettrick ran an excellent 26:40.

At the 9th Annual Lobster Dash 5 Miler in Ogunquit on Sep 26, Sharon Yu ran 42:33 for 3rd senior, and Marshall McCloskey ran 49:44 for 2nd Super Vet.

Jose Naveo ran a 20:33 PR at the Komen Massachusetts 5K Race for the Cure in Boston on Sep 26.

At the 3rd Annual Wicked Half Marathon in Salem (MA) on Sep 26, Lory Cavanagh was 2nd woman in a 1:23:20 PR. Amy Dalton had a 1:53:37 PR, and Lauren Bonaccorso a fine 1:54:46.

The Lone Gull 10K in Gloucester on Sep 20 was this year's Grand Prix Championship. The adidas-NERC men's team won the team title, led by Dan Vassallo's 30:39. Dan was 2nd overall, and he was quickly followed by Curt and Nick Wheeler, and then Nate Krah and Jon Healey. The team wore GTD uniforms.
Tammie Robie was 2nd woman overall in a 36:13 PR, and led her Whirlaway team to a 2nd place finish.
Tina Dowling, running for adidas-NERC, won the master's title in 37:48 PR, and was 8th woman overall. Sim Piergentili was 3rd master in 37:57, and led her Whirlaway master's team to 1st place.
The Goon Squad Runners men's team of Brian Reeves [PR], David Hirst [PR], Dan Hill [PR], Chris Chetsas, and Dan Frank all ran well, with Dan Frank getting a PR.
Linda Jennings was 4th senior and Sarah Prescott [PR] 15th master in these very competitive divisions.
Gina Newton had a PR.
Don Chapelle led the MVS men's team.

At the Run for Ryan's Cup / Chelmsford Police 5k in Chelmsford on Sep 20, Kara Haas was 1st woman in 17:17 (5:34) and Larissa Park was 3rd in 18:32 (5:58).

Kara Haas was 1st woman and 3rd overall in 18:18 at the Half way to Saint Patricks Day 5k in Manchester (NH) on Sep 13.

Chris Mahoney won the Run to the Rock 1/2 Marathon in Plymouth on Sep 12. Chris turned in a tremendous time of 1:12:29.

At the Ollie 5 Miler (ok, 4.91 miler) in South Boston on Sep 12, the adidas-NERC [New England Running Company] men's team finished 2nd overall. This was the 5th race in the 2009 USATF-NE Grand Prix Road Racing Series.
Overall, GTD runners turned in some great times.

At the 76th Annual Around Cape Ann 25K in Gloucester on Sep 7, Dan Hill ran 1:55:35 (7:27) and Scott Masse 2:07 (8:11).

Jeannie Sullivan ran 43:15 (9:57 at the Run the Goose 7K in Gloucester on Sep 7.

On Sep 3 at the Atkinson (NH) 5K, Cyndi Springford ran 22:19 for 4th in her age group (and won a tank top!).


August, 2009

Kara Haas was 1st woman and 4th overall on Aug 30 in the 7th Annual Marcia Lemkin 5K in Lowell. Kara ran a swift 17:38. Tim Harris ran 19:04 and Beth Hettrick 26:55.

Holly Madden was 1st master in 18:07 at the Scituate Beach Run 5K on Aug 29.

On Aug 29 at the Chad Half Marathon in Hanover (NH), Cristina Winsor (1:35:03) and Sarah Prescott (1:35:45) ran stupendous races.

At the Saunders at Rye Harbor 10K on Aug 20th (yet another Thursday evening race), Chris Mahoney was 5th overall in 32:46. Beth Lindquist was top master in 42:06. Dan Hill ran 42:53, Scott Masse 47:20, and Sharon Yu 53:09.

On Thursday evening, Aug 13, at the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K in Manchester, Jim Johnson turned in a fleet 15:12 (4:54) for 14th overall in this massive race with almost 5000 finishers. Julie Hanover cracked the 20 minute barrier with a 19:42 (6:21 for 11th woman overall.

At the Falmouth Road Race on Aug 9, Kara Haas was 23rd woman in 43:25, and Holly Madden was 6th master in 45:19, a 30 second PR. Jay Newton ran 48:35 (a 2:11 PR!). Linda Jennings was 3rd senior in 49:59 (a 2:26 PR!). Gina Newton ran 52:04 (a 2:38 PR!). [Coach Braz does not guarantee PRs at Falmouth when you train with him, but who would question these results? Thanks, Coach.]

At the 15th Kingston (NH) VFA 5 Miler, Cyndi Springford ran 37:33.

Allen Beebe turned in a tremendous 2:25:53 at the Lowell Triathlon on Aug 9. Allen was a whisker from 3rd in his age group over the challenging course, a half-mile swim, 22 mile bike, and six mile run.

At the 7th Annual Crisman Memorial 5K Run/Walk in Amhurst (NH) on Aug 8, Chris Cormier ran 21:05 (6:47) and Judy Silva was 2nd master in 22:06 (7:07).

Larissa Park won the Yankee Homecoming 5K Road Race in Beverly on Aug 6 in 18:18. Linda Ford was 2nd master in 21:04.

On Aug 2 at the First Annual Heritage Days 5K in Salem (MA), Marsha Hogan was 1st master in 20:43, and Linda Jennings was 1st senior in 21:27.

On Aug 1 at the Beach to Beacon 10k in Cape Elizabeth (ME), Curtis Wheeler ran 31:59 (5:09), Nicholas Wheeler 32:23(5:13), and Chris Mahoney 33:18 (5:21).
Tammie Robie ran a strong 36:36 (5:54), and Sim Piergentili an excellent 38:02 (6:08). Melissa Donais turned in a steady 39:32 (6:22).

While 30 GTD runners "enjoyed" the last track tempo workout, another group went over to Newburyport for the Yankee Homecoming 10 Miler on July 28. Here's how they did.

In Haverhill on July 16 at the Sapienza Memorial Road Race, Tammie Robie was 1st woman over the 4 mile course in 23:25 (5:52). Sharon Yu ran 33:13 for 2nd senior, and Marshall McCloskey ran 46:19.

At the Mill City Triathlon in Lowell on July 12, Ann Kingsland was 2nd woman in 2:50:02 in the International competition (.9 mile swim, 26 mile bike, and 10K run). Allen Beebe won the vets division in 3:01:39.

Larissa Park won the Take the Lake 5K in Wakefield on July 12 in 18:34. Sue Kiley was 1st master in 20:15.

In Haverhill on July 9 at the 3rd Annual Independence 5K, Linda Ford was top master in 21:15.

On July 11th at the 14th Annual Portsmouth Harbour Trail 5k, Beth Lindquist was 1st woman in 20:45 and Jim Johnson was 2nd overall in 15:55 (5:08).

Michelle Lagimonier ran 22:50 at the 29th Annual Berna's Great Legs 5K Road Race in Lowell on July 9.

Jim Johnson won the Loon Mountain Race in Lincoln, NH, on July 5, in 48:25.

At the The Great Harvard 4th of July 5 Miler, Jay Newton ran 35:28 and Gina 38:03.

At the 20th Annual Sons of Italy 5 Miler in Lawrence on the 4th, Dan Hill ran 35:28.

On July 4 at the Jennifer Tinney Memorial 5 Miler in Boxford, Steve LeCours was 3rd in 29:02.

At the North Andover 4th of July 10K, Don Chapelle was 6th in 38:48.

In the John Carson 2 Miler on the 4th, Jim Johnson was 7th in 9:44. Kara Haas ran 11:04 and Henry Wilder 12:27.


June, 2009

The sparkling Holly Madden won the POW-MIA Run for Freedom 5 Miler on Boston on June 28. Holly's 30:53 put her 4th overall in a field of 142.

On June 27 at the Ipswich Rotary 5K, Tim Harris was 8th overall in 19:27.

At the 29th Annual Old Home Day 5K in Plaistow on June 27, Melissa Donais was 1st woman in 18:37, and Don Chapelle was 2nd senior in 18:21. Bill Clarke ran 22:31, Jim Vitale 24:52, Amy Dalton 25:52, Lauren Bonaccorso 26:01, Donna Phaneuf 29:22, Elissa Colella 29:22, Robyn Pringle 30:50, and Cathy Kobler 30:58.

In Gloucester on June 25 at the Fiesta Five Road Race, Tina Dowling was 2nd woman in 18:36, Glenn Simm ripped another 2 seconds off his PR to finish in 19:19, and Linda Ford snagged 3rd master in 21:04. Proving again that this is a great sport (but you have to show up and race it), Tina won a pitcher of beer and Linda nachos and cheese.

Ann Daly finished the Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene (Idaho) on June 21 in an inspiring 15:42:50. Ann's a long-time great runner from the Merrimack Valley, winner of the old Lowell Marathon, and always a great competitor.

On June 21 at the Tyngsborough Father's Day 5k, Steve LeCours was 3rd overall in 17:48 (5:45). Julie Hanover ran 20:35 and Kelly LeCours 20:57.

At the Rockport Fathers Day 5K on June 21, Tina Dowling was 1st master and 2nd woman in 19:38 and Glenn Simm was 3rd master in 19:54

Kara Haas won the Kahuna Sports Bar 5K in Chelmsford on June 21 in 18:32.

Dan Vassallo won the 8th Annual Brendan's Home Run 5K Race in Belmont on June 21. Dan's time was 15:07.

In Osterville at the 13th Annual Women Running Wild 5K, Karen Durante was 17th in 22:34 and Betty Waldman won her age group in 27:10.

At the 6th Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K Race to Cure ALS in Hopkinton on June 20, Tina Dowling was 1st master and 3rd woman in 18:52.

On June 20 at the 49th Mount Washington Road Race, Jim Johnson ran 1:10:22 (22nd overall, a fine performance in this race). Chris Mahoney ran 1;20:44, Sarah Prescott 1:41:03 (43rd woman out of 238), Henry Wilder 2:01:48, Scott Masse 2:05:44, and Donna Phaneuf 2:35:17

At the 16th Annual Louise Rossetti Women's 5K in Beverly on June 17, Kara Haas was 2nd in 18:01, Tina Dowling was 3rd and 1st master in 18:44, and Linda Ford was 9th in 21 flat. Jen Popowicz ran 22:07, Kara Sotirakopalos 24:28, Amy Dalton 24:30, Kelly Zeeh 26:36, and Elisa Colella 28:11.

At the Market Square Day 10k in Portsmouth (NH) on June 13, Jim Johnson was 3rd overall in 32:45 (5:17), and Beth Lindquist won the master's title in 43:02. Scott Masse and Dan Hill ran 43:06s, obviously protecting Beth from wild dogs who might attack from the rear with no warning.

Nina Caron was 1st woman at the Krit Classic 5K in Andover on June 7. Nina ran 18:33. Run/Walk Andover High School - Andover, MA, June 7.

Kara Haas was 3rd overall and 1st woman at the Lowell Firefighters 5K on June 7. Kara ran 19:01.

John Ayers was 2nd overall in 17:56 at the 3rd Annual Hornet Hustle in N. Reading on June 7.

Tammie Robie won the Hollis Apple Country Fast 5K on June 3 in 16:54 (5:28). Kara Haas was 2nd woman in 17:10 (5:33). Don Chapelle was 2nd senior in 17:21. Sarah Prescott was 2nd master in 19:58, and Linda Jennings smoked the seniors division in 20:16.

The ethereal-esque Kara Haas won the Johns Race for a Cure 5K in Lowell on May 31st in 18:46 (6:03). Kara was 2nd overall and 1st woman.

Holly Madden was 1st woman (and master) at the Clarks 3.5 mile Fund Run in Cohasset on May 31st. Holly's time was 21:27 (6:08).

On Friday night, May 29, at the Andover Days 5K, Jay Newton ran 19:56, Henry Wilder 20:08, Sue Kiley was 2nd woman and 1st master in 21:34, Gina Newton 21:49, Jennifer Hout 24:21, Amy Dalton 25:23, Kara Sotirakopoulos 25:46, Jeanne Sullivan 26:54, Kelly Zeeh 28:04, Elisa Colella 28:58, Donna Phaneuf 29:15, and Robyn Pringle 33:19.

Nina Caron won Boston's Run to Remember Half Marathon on May 24 in 1:21:58. She was 1st woman, 1st master, 1st 49-year old, and 20th overall. Linda Ford ran a very fine 1:38:45, Tom Fleming 1:40:20, and Beth Clarke a 1:45:35 PR. Francine Johnson ran an excellent 57:56 in the 5 miler.
For the half-marathon, we are reporting guntimes, not net or chip times. Official results, according to USA Track & Field, are based on the starting gun, which may not be your chip/net time. This race was short -- not 13.1 miles, and the results list finishers by chip rather than gun time. Rest assured, Nina won the race. And we will return to reporting your net times, except when it affects the finish order in a race.

In the Hyannis Half-Marathon on May 24, Steve LeCours was 10th overall in 1:24:40 and Kelly LeCours was 1st master woman in 1:34:08. Jen Popowicz ran a great 1:44:09, Jennifer Hout ran a fine 1:58:30, Betty Waldman 2:12:57, and Rich Waldman 2:31:52. In the 5K, Ray Sarcione ran 23:07.

At the 21st Vermont City Marathon in Burlington on May 24, Frank Row was 9th master in a 2:56:46 PR, and Francine Jones ran a 3:57:42 PR. Brian Reeves ran a relaxed 3:04:35.

In Haverhill at the Baldi River Run 5 Miler on May 24, Dan Hill ran 33:50 and Sharon Yu 42:03 for 3rd senior (Go Group G!).

At the Runners Alley/Redhook Memorial 5K in Portsmouth (NH) on May 24, Jim Johnson (running for CMS) was 2nd in 15;38, and Chris Mahoney (running for Whirlaway) was 4th in 16:05. Scott Steeves ran 18:41 and Maddy Steeves 21:00. Scott Masse, rounding into shape, ran 23:31.

Judy Silva was 1st master woman on May 23 at the 14th Annual Melody Miles 5K in Hamilton. Judy's time was 22:29, and she was 3rd woman overall.

On May 23 at the Duathlon de Iles in Montreal, Ted MacMahon was 3rd overall. He was 1st in 9k run in 33:01, 6th in the 40k bike in 1:05:49, and 1st in the final 4.75k run in 17:02, for a total of 1:55:51.
Pattie Dalconzo ran 6:18 pace for 5.99 miles (which was supposed to be 10k but was short), 21.13 pace for 25 mile bike, and 6:33 pace for final 5k. Pattie reports that she was "overall winner for women and first in my age (have to know what races to pick :)"

In Maine at the Sugarloaf Marathon on May 17, Marsha Hogan ran 3:26:57 (11th woman and 2nd master). Jen DeSimone ran a fine 3:49:30.

John Ayers won the Our Two Angels 5K in Lynn on May 17 in 16:54 (5:27). Jay Newton ran 20:38 and Gina Newton 22:18 for 2nd woman overall.

At the Lions Spring Sprint Triathlon (Marlboro) on May 17, Ted Macmahon finished 7th overall in 50:51. Cutting to the chase, his (final) 3.2 mile run was 19:41, which followed a 250 yard swim and 9.3 mile bike.


At the 35th Annual Bedford Rotary 12K in Bedford (NH) on May 16, part of the USATF-NE Grand Prix, Dan Vassallo led his adidas-NE team to 1st place. Dan was 2nd overall in 38:04 (5:07), and along with winner Joseph Koech broke the course record. Jon Healey finished the team scoring with 39:56, 18th overall.

Chris Mahoney helped his Whirlaway team to 2nd place with a 39:19 (5:17), 12th overall.

Tina Dowling's 46:54 (6:18) gave her 3rd place in the master's division.

Holly Madden led her Good Squad Runners to 3rd place in the women's masters division. Holly ran 47:46 for 5th master. Next on the team was Linda Jennings 53:03, good also for 3rd senior, and then the irrepressible Sarah Prescott in 54:10.

Jim Johnson, running for CMS, ran a fine 40:23, and Don Chapelle, representing MVS as a senior, ran an excellent 47:39.

Tina Dowling was 1st woman at the Cape Ann YMCA Backshore 5 Miler in Gloucester on May 8th. Tina was 9th overall in 31:28. Glenn Simm ran 32:18 for 3rd master and Linda Ford 36:22, also 3rd master.

At the Westford 5K on May 3, Julie Hanover was 3rd woman in 21:02.

Linda Jennings was 1st woman (and 10th overall) at the Fifth Annual Exercise For Education 5K in Burlington on May 3. Linda's time was 21:18.

In Boston at the BAA 5K on Apr 19, Tina Dowling was 9th woman (fast field) in 18:44, and Glenn Simm ran 19:38 to capture 11th out of 179 runners in his age bracket -- see, a fast field and a big field.

At the Chase the Gorilla Down Argilla 5K in Ipswich on Apr 18, Dan Hill ran 20:29 and Linda Ford 21:43.

Nina Caron was 1st woman and 8th overall in 30:56 at the 1st Annual Dan Ford 5 Miler in Methuen on Apr 18. Dan Hill (or his twin) ran 35:42. Sharon Yu ran an excellent 42:35.
Was that Dan in both races? Was The Iliad not written by Homer, but by another man with the same name?

In the Martha's Run 10K in Mt. Lebanon, PA, on Apr 11, Larissa Park won the race in 41:07. Not impressed? Her previous best on this course was 3 minutes slower, two years ago. Still not impressed? The women's course record is 39:06. set by a 2:32 marathoner.

Kara Haas was 1st woman in 18:22 and 2nd overall at the Opening Nite 5K in Lowell on Apr 7.

John Ayers was 1st master and 2nd overall at the 7th Michael Dunleavy 5K on Apr 5 in Winchester. John ran 16:46.
Stephanie Hirst was 1st woman (woop woop) in 20:46, with David 6th overall in 18:09.

In DC on Apr 5 at the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler, Tina Dowling ran a PR in 64 minutes flat. She was 4th master in this huge, competitive race.

On Apr 5 at the Cohasset By The Sea 10K, Holly Madden ran 40:09 and Larissa Park 40:47.

Linda Jennings ran 34:34 on Apr 5 at the 12th Annual Doyle's Emerald Necklace 5 Miler in Jamaica Plain. Remarkably enough, this 6:55 pace earned Linda only 3rd place in the now very fast senior women's division. It will be a long and exciting year of racing.

At the 16th Annual SEA 5K in Concord (NH) on Apr 4, Jim Johnson was 2nd overall in 16:23 (5:17) and Sarah Prescott ran a spectacular 21:54 (7:03).

On Apr 5 at the 16th Annual Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter 5K, Jim was a bit faster in 16:16 (5:14) and won it.


March, 2009

Sue Kiley won the W Suburban YMCA Angino Memorial 5k Road Race in Newton (MA) on Mar 29 in 20:33.

In Virginia at the Van Metre 5 Miler on Mar 28, Liz Camire was 2nd master and 9th woman in 35:47.

At the Run to the Border 1/2 Marathon, which finished in Salisbury on Mar 29, Glenn Simm ran a zowie 1:30:21 (6:54). In the companion Run to Border 20 Miler Road Race, Jim Johnson ran an equally zowie 1:56:31 (5:50). Brian Reeves ran 2:22:48 (7:08). Gina Newton ran 2:55:12 and Jay Newton ran 2:55:14.

On Mar 28 at the April Fools Spring Classic 4 Miler in Salisbury, Dan Vassallo was 2nd in 19:32 (4:53) and Melissa Donais was 1st woman in 23:47 (5:53).

Frank Row ran a 2-minute PR of 36:50 at the 2009 Ukrops Monument Avenue 10k in Richmond (VA) on Mar 28.
At the Ocean Drive Marathon in NJ on Mar 29, Chris Chetsas turned a training run into a 3:29 performance. Hardly broke a sweat.

In Beverly, MA, on Mar 22, at the North Shore 30K, Bob Whirty ran a solid 2:20:38 (7:34) and Ron Devoe and excellent 2:35:58 (8:23).

Tim Harris ran a tremendous 18:19 (5:54) at the 7th Annual Ras na hEireann U.S.A. 5K in Somerville on Mar 15, good for 4th master and 40th overall in race race that drew 4151 finishers.

At the 32nd New Bedford Half Marathon on Mar 15, part of the USATF-NE Grand Prix Series, many GTD runners ran personal bests, including Brian Reeves, Tina Dowling, Glenn Simm, and Dan Hill. The race also saw the debut of a Going the Distance men's team, which finished 3rd overall in the men's division. See names and scoring below.

Another team highlight for GTD runners was a 3rd place women master's finish, with scoring from Holly Madden, Kelly LeCours, and Linda Jennings -- all competing for the Goon Squad Runners.

Individually, Tina Dowling was 2nd women's master, and Linda Jennings was 3rd women's senior.

Dan Vassallo Wins Hynes 5 Miler; Melissa 1st Woman
In Lowell on Mar 8 at the Hynes Road Race (5 miles), Dan won by 2 minutes (!!) in 25:06 (5:02. Melissa was 1st woman in 30:22 (6:05) and Tina Dowling was 2nd, and 1st master woman, in 31 flat (6:12). Larissa Park was 3rd woman overall in 32:04 (6:25). Linda Jennings was 3rd senior woman in 35:19 (7:04) and Becky Connolly was 3rd master in 35:20 (7:04). Glenn Simm ran a strong 33:19 (6:40).
Kara Haas and her mom, Ann Molloy, ran a good race together.

At the 30th Annual Colonial Half-Marathon in Williamsburg (VA) on Feb 22, Tyler Kidd ran an excellent 1:27:25 (6:39).

At the Weston Winter Duathlon 2009 on Feb 22, a 4K run, 5K ski, and 4K run, Allen Beebe was 3rd in his age group (the rare 45+ division). He ran 19:40, skied 37:38, and then ran 21:44. All those hill workouts on Tuesday evening are worth it!


Lori Clites Runs 3:30:34 at Myrtle Beach Marathon
Lori ran a tremendous race at the Myrtle Beach Marathon (SC) on Feb 14. She was 3rd in her age group and 1st in the hearts of all her supporters up north. Great job Lori.

Closer to home at the Half at the Hamptons (NH) on Feb 15, Mike Teixeira was 2nd senior in 1:32:24.

On Feb 14 at the Martha's Vineyard 20-miler, Jason Kramer ran 2:24:01 (7:13).

At the Valentines Races in Bradford on Feb 14, Tina Dowling was 1st woman in the 5 miler in 32 flat (6:24). Todd Lagimonier was 1st GTDer in 28:57 (5:48). Dan Hill ran 35:38 (7:08).
In the 6K, Melissa Donais was 3rd woman (and 4th overall) in 23:18 (6:18). Glenn Simm was next -- 2nd male and 1st master -- in 24:15 (6:34).


Holly Madden Wins Brockton 5 Miler
On Feb 8, Holly was 1st woman 32:17 (6:27) at the 28th Annual Paddy Kelly 5 Mile Road Race in Brockton.


Dan Vassallo Dominates Maine 10 Miler / Kara Haas Wins Lowell 5K / Tina Dowling Wins 5 Miler
Winning a 10 miler by a minute and 39 seconds makes a statement. And that's what Dan did on Feb 1 at the 28th Mid-Winter 10 Mile Classic in Cape Elizabeth (ME). His 51:09 (5:07) blew away the rest of the field.

In Lowell at the 7th Annual Super 5K on Feb 1, Kara was 7th overall and 1st woman in 18:12 (5:53), another quality (and winning) performance from an amazing athlete.

At the 16th Annual Newburyport Rotary Club Frigid Fiver on Feb 1, Tina Dowling was 7th overall and 1st woman in 31:36. Glenn Simm followed a respectful 3 places back, 10th overall in 33:51.

In Lynn at the 35th Annual Great Stew Chase, your basic 15K, Ron Devoe ran a fine 1:19:03 (8:29).

On Jan 25 at the 3M Half-Marathon in Austin, Texas, Kara was 2nd American woman, 11th overall, and won her age group in 1:20:20.

Kara was 1st woman and 5th overall out of 47 finishers at the Beaver Brook 5K Snowshoe race in Hollis, NH, on Jan 17. Her time was 19:43.
Allen turned in an excellent 25:03, good for 26th overall.

Melissa Donais 6th Woman, Linda Jennings 1st Senior at Disney Half-Marathon
Melissa [at right] made her half-marathon debut at Disney on January 10 a major success with a steady 1:25:23. She was 6th woman overall.
Linda again showed her national class with a 1:35 flat and 1st place in the senior division (going against competitors six years younger).

At the Pooh Hill 8.5K Snowshoe Scramble in East Madison, NH, on January 10, Crystal Anthony was 1st woman in 49:30, and 4th overall against 72 snowshoe aficionados.

Crystal Anthony was 1st woman and 9th overall in 26:40 at the Second Annual Wicked Frosty Four in Salem (MA) on New Year's morning. Ron Devoe ran a fine 32:36, good for 6th senior.

Up in Salisbury at the 28th Hangover Classic, Liz Camire ran a strong 24:21 in the 5k, and Sharon Yu 55:18 in the 10k. Sharon was 4th senior.
